  1. How to draw a bunny, step 1: body and head guides
    STEP 1Guide lines

    Body and head guides

Start light: a big circle for the body, and a smaller circle up on the right for the head, just touching it.

Draw these lightly: they’re only there to help, and you’ll rub them out in step 10.

  2. How to draw a bunny, step 2: ear, haunch and tail guides
    STEP 2Guide lines

    Ear, haunch and tail guides

Two long lines up from the top of the head for the ears, a circle inside the back for the haunch, and a small circle at the back for the tail.

Draw these lightly: they’re only there to help, and you’ll rub them out in step 10.

  3. How to draw a bunny, step 3: the head
    STEP 3Outline

    The head

Now the outline: from the back of the head, down and round under the chin, up the cheek and over the top.

  4. How to draw a bunny, step 4: the ears
    STEP 4Outline

    The ears

Two tall ears standing up from the head, each with a line inside for the inner ear.

  5. How to draw a bunny, step 5: the eye
    STEP 5Outline

    The eye

The eye: an almond, a circle for the pupil and a tiny circle for the glint. Just outlines for now.

  6. How to draw a bunny, step 6: nose, mouth and whiskers
    STEP 6Outline

    Nose, mouth and whiskers

A little triangle nose, a smile underneath, and three whiskers on each side.

  7. How to draw a bunny, step 7: the back and haunch
    STEP 7Outline

    The back and haunch

Along the back and round the bottom, then a curve inside for the big back leg.

  8. How to draw a bunny, step 8: the tail
    STEP 8Outline

    The tail

A fluffy pom-pom tail, drawn with little bumps all the way round.

  9. How to draw a bunny, step 9: the feet
    STEP 9Outline

    The feet

A long flat back foot along the ground, and the front paw, with a couple of little toe lines on each.

  10. How to draw a bunny, step 10: erase the guides
    STEP 10Clean lines

    Erase the guides

Rub out the circles and guide lines. Only the rabbit stays.

  11. How to draw a bunny, step 11: go over the outline
    STEP 11Clean lines

    Go over the outline

Now press harder and go over the outside edge of the whole rabbit, so it stands out from the lines inside.

  12. How to draw a bunny, step 12: shadow side
    STEP 12Shading

    Shadow side

The light comes from the top left. Shade the side away from it with a soft, even tone. Keep most of the rabbit white.

  13. How to draw a bunny, step 13: cast shadow
    STEP 13Shading

    Cast shadow

A soft shadow on the ground under the rabbit, so it sits on the page.

  14. How to draw a bunny, step 14: deep shadows
    STEP 14Shading

    Deep shadows

Press a little harder in the deepest places: under the chin, behind the front leg and under the haunch.

  15. How to draw a bunny, step 15: the darks
    STEP 15Shading

    The darks

Last of all, fill in the pupil, leaving the glint white.

Tips for a better bunny

  1. Start light

The first two steps are guide circles and lines. Draw them so lightly you can barely see them: they’re only there to get the shape right, and you’ll rub them out.

  2. Keep the ears long

Two tall ears standing up from the head are what make it a bunny. Give each one a line inside for the inner ear.

  3. Make the tail bumpy

Draw the tail as a pom-pom, with little bumps all the way round, so it looks soft and fluffy.

  4. Shade one side only

Pick where the light comes from (here, the top left) and shade the side away from it softly and evenly. Keep most of the bunny white.

  5. Save the darkest for last

Press a little harder only in the deepest places, under the chin, behind the front leg and under the haunch, then fill in the eye, leaving a white glint.

Questions

Is this bunny easy to draw?

Yes. It starts with two circles and a few guide lines, so the shape is right before you add any detail, and each step only adds a little. If you’ve never drawn before, it’s a good first drawing.

What do I need?

A pencil, paper and an eraser. Draw the first steps lightly: the guide circles are rubbed out in step 10, and only the bunny stays.

How do I make the bunny look soft and fluffy?

Draw the tail with little bumps all the way round, keep the outline smooth, and shade softly and evenly on the side away from the light. Leave most of the bunny white.

Can kids draw it?

Yes. It’s made for beginners of any age. If reading the steps is hard, the draw-along talks you through each line while it draws.
